Hi, the Podlove web player was always loading kinda slowish, but for a while now, it has become extremely slow on my site.

Your site only seems to be fine because you are using a page cache. When I access a page that is not cached yet, response time is in the range of ~5 seconds.
The web player relies on the API to dynamically fetch data. These requests are not cached (not sure if that can or should be changed) and take ~2s each after the initial page load. There are multiple requests, that’s why it takes many seconds in your case for the player to appear.
@zusatzstoff looks like all three requests (episode, theme, config) are done sequentially. Any chance running them in parallel?

Is the long response time due to the wordpress configuration plus its plugins or is it an issue of our provider?
Can we reduce the amount of requests by changing the podlove configuration?
You are right, that’s something I could do in parallel (episode and config is easy, theme might need a bigger change).
No action required, just to add additional information to this request:
Altough our server (https://fotophonie.de) usually is answering relatively fast, the newest Version of the Webplayer 5 (5.3.1) was loading noticably slower then the one before within the last days.

Is there anything I can do within the publisher or player plugin … [if yes, what can I do? keep in mind, I´m not familiar with html, css, etc.]

Optimising the requests on player side will improve the player performance. In your case this won’t change that much since the initial request response from the Wordpress API takes 4.55 seconds. For comparison 80ms is a good metric, if the response takes longer than 200ms I would start to investigate. In your case the response is 56 times slower than the optimum. So I would at least file an issue for the hoster. Btw. what hoster are we talking about?

da für die längeren Ladezeiten hauptsächlich der Player Podlove verantwortlich ist, kann ich dir eigentlich nur vorschlagen umzusteigen.
Ansonsten wirst du da leider nicht viel aus der Optimierung rausholen können.

Die Antwort halte ich für ziemlichen Quatsch, dann sollten alle anderen Nutzer die den Player verwenden das gleiche Problem haben. Nichts neues für shared hoster. Podigee nimmt dir das hosting ab und ist vielleicht eine gute Alternative. Du kannst dir auch mal Letscast anschauen. Wenn du einen richtigen Shared Hoster haben möchtest dann ist eine generelle Empfehlung auch Uberspace.

danke für die Rückmeldung. ich bin mit der Antwort meines Hosts auch nicht zufrieden, die haben leider beim Support im letzten Jahr ziemlich nachgelassen, so zumindest mein subjektiver Eindruck.
Ich weiß jedoch nach wie vor nicht, was ich jetzt tun kann, damit meine Seite / der Player schneller lädt!!
Soll ich meinem Host eine spezifische Forderung schicken?
Kann ich selbst etwas machen (das ich auch verstehe)?
Liegt es tatsächlich an meinem Host und ist somit ein Wechsel zwingend notwendig?
Was sind meine Möglichkeiten, die dann auch tatsächlich etwas bringen?
Ihr seht, ich steh komplett an, würde es aber gerne verstehen und selbst fixen können.

Wenn du einen sehr günstigen Hoster benutzt, kann es tatsächlich schlicht an fehlender Leistung liegen.

mit der aktuellen Version des Players läuft es jetzt deutlich schneller. Dauert zwar noch immer aber am Hosting bin ich dran …
