Why does each episode require its own page?

Forgive my ignorance, but why can’t I simply publish exclusively to RSS?

Because episodes are manged using WordPress’ “Custom Post Types” and they generate their own pages by default. In general it makes sense for episodes to have a representation on the web so they can be listened to using a web player.

Not publishing episode pages is surely possible but would be a feature that does not exist at the moment.
